UPDATED: Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has confirmed Toowoomba Hospital is treating a COVID-19 patient.
Queensland’s chief health officer Dr Jeanette Young said the case was linked to the Byron Bay hen’s party cluster.
Dr Young said 10 people attended the party in Byron Bay, and six of them had tested positive for COVID-19, as well as an adult entertainer.
The Toowoomba Hospital has managed COVID-19 positive cases previously, Dr Young said.
She also said that “because we got to (the cases) due to very fast action by (the nurse) in that second cluster” she was “not concerned there’s any significant risk to the community”.
“Having said that, this virus is so contagious... anyone with symptoms, come forward and get tested immediately.”
8AM: A person who tested positive for COVID-19 was being cared for in the Toowoomba Hospital as of yesterday evening, The Chronicle understands.
It is expected the case will be announced as part of the State Government’s daily COVID-19 update this morning.
The Queensland Health website, updated yesterday, is listing one active COVID-19 patient in the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service region.
The hospital patient is the same COVID-19 case who spent time at The Ridge Shoppingworld and Jamaica Blue on Friday, March 26 prior to testing positive.
Contact tracing alerts are active for both the cafe and centre.
The case is understood to be linked to the Byron Bay cluster.
