It’s already shaping up to be an exciting and prosperous year for Toowoomba musician Cloe Terare, with the young up-and-comer recently receiving her second Queensland Music award nomination and being named as one of the artists to perform at September’s Fresh Produce festival.

Nominated last year in the Indigenous music category, Terare said it meant a lot to her as a new musician to be nominated two years in a row in two separate categories

“I’m super proud to be nominated, despite only being in the industry full time now for two years it really means a lot to be recognised in both the Indigenous and the electronic/dance categories,” she said.

“Coming from an Indigenous background my cultural heritage is very important to me but it’s also important to me not to let that category define me, so I am really honoured to be nominated in a second category at this year’s QMAs.”

At just 24 years old, Terare has only been living in Toowoomba and exploring the music industry for the past two years after releasing a song as part of a friend’s uni project.

“I quickly discovered a love for it and have since been working on a couple of projects including my latest single Intention, released in October with Melbourne artist JDG after we collaborated over the internet.”

Terare has been making waves in the electronic dance world, getting airtime on Triple J after uploading three of her tracks up via the station’s Unearthed platform, a way for new artists to have their music discovered and played on the radio.

“I love living in Toowoomba. I moved up here from Brisbane to join my boyfriend and his family and instantly fell in love with the weather and greenery and lifestyle. It’s definitely a good place to live and create music,” she said.

“This year I’m spending time working on my sound with my team to create an EP and getting ready to perform at Fresh Produce in September which I am absolutely stoked for.

“I think if I win an award at the QMAs I will probably celebrate by throwing a big party with loads of my friends and lots of live music.”

The 2021 QMAs will be presented under the decadent chandeliers of the Fortitude Music Hall on May 5 in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
