New home builder with a difference launches in Darling Downs, Ipswich

Long-time carpenter and businessman Peter Simpson has lived and worked in the region long enough to know what matters to Darling Downs homeowners and prospective buyers.

Now he’s started his own venture, adding to the region’s already-rich landscape of family-owned businesses, but with a difference.

Leonard Homes is an affordable luxury home builder, servicing the Darling Downs, and Ipswich.

Long-time carpenter Peter Simpson has launched a new business building homes across the region.

They specialise in new home builds, and construct Hampton-style, weatherboard houses.

Mr Simpson previously came from working as the general manager of a larger building businesses before deciding to venture out on his own with his partner, Stephanie and one other colleague.

Having only started three weeks ago, Mr Simpson said he won his first job through word-of-mouth.

“With a corporate structures things get missed,” he said.

“With Leonard Homes, clients deal with me directly all the way through, it’s pretty open and honest.”

After coming from a larger company, Mr Simpson said he values maintaining a small, tight-knit team.

His goals are to expand to a mid-size company, but not at the expense of the customer’s satisfaction.

New business owners Stephanie Kelly, Peter Simpson and their daughter Elsie are servicing the Darling Downs and Ipswich.

“We’re very close knit,” he said.

“I’ve had the experience with a major company to know how to run every part of the business.”

At the end of the day, Mr Simpson said it’s not just about building a house for a client, but creating a home they feel proud of.

“Our slogan is ‘be home proud’,” Mr Simpson said.

“We want something that has good street appeal, that people enjoy coming home to.”
