This morning’s quick fuel stop has left a Kingsthorpe family rattled after they happened upon a violent crime at a Toowoomba service station.

The Newtown 7-Eleven on Bridge Street and Hillview Ave became the scene of an alleged wounding this morning when a man was stabbed in the abdomen just after 10am.

Mother of two, Kristian Cox said she and her family were refuelling the rental truck they had hired to help a friend move house this morning when they saw a body lying on the floor of the service station.

“The man was on the 7-Eleven floor with blood droplets coming from the front of the 7-Eleven to where he was laying,” she said.

“The police didn’t have sirens or anything on and casually drove in and parked … My husband made me get back into the car and lock the doors and there was a Samaritan standing at the door was telling people someone was stabbed and then he left.”

Ms Cox said the shop doors were still opening and closing, despite the man’s body laying just inside the store’s entrance.

“I think the 7-Eleven worker was locked in his box for safety, so we paid for the fuel at the afterhours counter,” she said.

“We were pretty scared, worried for ourselves and the man as we didn’t know how long ago he was stabbed.”

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 10.05am before transporting the male patient to the Toowoomba Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed police were alerted to an incident at 10.06am following alleged reports of a wounding.

“The wounding incident allegedly involves a man who had been stabbed in the abdominal at the 7-Eleven,” he said.

“We don’t know how this incident occurred at this point in time and no one has been arrested yet.”

Ms Cox said she felt crimes of this nature were becoming more frequent in Toowoomba and was concerned for her family’s safety.

“I think crimes like these are definitely becoming more of an issue in Toowoomba,” she said. “How are you supposed to safely bring up a family here and have your children do the right thing when this is what they constantly see in papers and the news.”

The Chronicle will report more information on the victim and culprit as updates become available from QPS.
