Farmer’s plea for water security supported by council

A dire plea for council to resolve the evolving water crisis in the region has been heard by community leaders. Here’s what they have planned.

'Critical water shortages' still plague parts of NSW

A Scenic Rim farmer’s plea to resolve the water crisis facing the region has been heard and responded to by council in a major move that will work to support rural land holders everywhere.

Two public meetings will be held this month for the Scenic Rim Regional Council to weigh up a feasibility study into demand for additional water at the Warrill and Fassifern valleys.

Harrisville farmer Paul Rennick has seen unprecedented changes in weather patterns and felt the full force of the drought on his property.

He said the feasibility study, and the pre-emptive council meetings, would be crucial to the survival of farms and properties around the region.
“The key to shoring up the region’s agricultural industries into the future and underpinning any hopes for expansion is accessing reliable water from a new source to supplement the supply from Moogerah Dam,” he said.

“These meetings are an opportunity for industry and local government to have a two-way conversation to gauge demand and discuss price points, it’s not about firm commitments.

“We don’t have all the answers yet so we need to come together with an open mind.”

The following meetings are best suited to potential investors and prospective commercial customers of the proposed Water for the Warrill Irrigation Project.

Irrigators, financial institutions, other local businesses and members of the public are welcome to attend.
