Health authorities have removed a Toowoomba cafe and shopping centre as COVID-19 contact tracing points, after determining the woman who visited the locations wasn’t infectious at the time.

Darling Downs Health and Queensland Health released statements revealing the woman, who contracted COVID-19 at a Byron Bay hen’s party between March 26-28, did not have it when she visited Jamaica Blue at the Ridge Shopping Centre on Friday March 26.

“Protecting Queenslanders from any community transmission and the impacts of COVID-19 is our first priority,” DDH said in a statement.

“As the current clusters emerged, we have taken a cautious approach to keep Queenslanders safe.

“As more information has become available, we have determined that our recent COVID-19 case was not infectious when in the Toowoomba community.

“When the case was first identified, we acted with caution and asked everyone that may have come in contact with the case during their infectious period to go into quarantine.

“As more test results have come in, we have refined our advice.

“There are currently no Toowoomba locations active in our contact tracing alerts.”

Residents who have entered a mandatory 14-day quarantine after being in the cafe or the shopping centre at same time the woman was there will need to contact DDH before exiting self-isolation.

The revelation ends a wild few days for Toowoomba, which started when the shopping centre first revealed it had become a tracing point on Tuesday.

The cafe was closed and disinfected as a result of the determination.
