Questions remain over the Toowoomba shopping centre COVID-19 contact tracing incident.

Jamaica Blue coffee shop at the Ridge Shopping Centre in Middle Ridge was cleaned out this week after a woman linked to the Byron Bay hen’s party cluster that occurred on March 26-28 was found to have visited it on March 26.

The event led to seven partygoers testing positive, including an adult entertainer.

Darling Downs Health released information on contacting tracing related to the positive case, who was admitted to Toowoomba Hospital on Tuesday before being transferred to another location the following day.

Dr Young ‘genuinely believes’ statewide restrictions are not a ‘big ask’

The cluster was started by a nurse at the PA Hospital, who caught the virus from a shift on March 23 and gave it to her sister, before the pair travelled to Byron Bay.

Dr Young told the media earlier this week the infection was spread at the hen’s party, which seems to contradict Queensland Health’s directives on contact tracing for the shopping centre.

The Chronicle, which has received multiple questions from the public on this matter, sent questions on Wednesday to the department about whether it knew there was an infectious case at the cafe, or whether the directives were made out of caution.

Queensland Health has yet to respond to the inquiry.

Anyone who was at the Jamaica Blue on Friday March 26 between 10.30am and 12pm needs to get tested and self-isolate for 14 days.

Anyone who was at the Ridge Shopping Centre between 10.30am and 12.15pm will need to get tested and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.
