Ever since Toowoomba cafe The Finch announced it would welcome diners into a second space, the anticipation has been high across the region.

And now the wait is over.

The Finch co-owners Dan and Edwina Farquhar said since opening the doors to their new Margaret St venue on Tuesday they had received a positive response from customers.

“We’ve been looking for a second place for a while but wanted to find the perfect site to call home and our builders have done a great job,” Mr Farquhar said.

“On Tuesday we had steady flow of people but were full most of Wednesday and the feedback has been really great.”

And it’s no surprise after the growing success of the local cafe since it first opened in 2015.

Formerly serving as the home of Weis Backdoor and most recently Charred, the warm and inviting venue has undergone a major transformation.

“We really wanted to create a fun space where we could bring the outside in,” Mr Farquhar said.

“While we’re aiming very high in terms of food quality, we are looking for that quick food service element too and wanted this space to be really comfortable, cosy and welcoming.”

Working alongside interior designer Angela Smith, the couple has introduced the perfect colour palette, teamed with soft furnishings.

“It took a lot of work to create the environment we were after … we’ve put insulation in the roof outside, adjusted the roof height and put in infra-red heaters, new lights and fans,” Mr Farquhar said.

“We painted the walls and internally we reinforced the floor, there’s a new bar and we also have a pizza takeaway area so people have the option to jump out of the car in their trackie-dacks and grab their dinner too.”

The new menu features a range of modern Australian items and flavoursome pizzas – many of which are named after mountain bike tracks in the area.

Cooked using a large Marana pizza oven from Italy, the business owner said it creates a perfect, even char on the crust.

Menu favourites include the pork 'nduja – spicy sausage – croquettes and Austrian-inspired dish parmesan crusted chicken schnitzel.

Describing his food style as fast-casual but high quality, Mr Farquhar said there was something for everyone with burgers, steaks, salads, grazing plates and a comprehensive breakfast menu.

Wines to pair with the pizza range were carefully selected along with a list of cocktails and mocktails including the Weis Bar – serving as a sweet tribute.

As it does downtown, The Finch will be serving their Fonzie Abbott brewed coffee.

“We just wanted to bring something unique to this part of town with an offering of different menu items and a unique selling point for us is that we make our products here onsite,” he said.

“The feedback we’re getting is great … our pizza chef Mattia is Italian and a lot of his mates from Italy have come through and loved the food.”

Sitting beside a local veterinary clinic, the owners are also in the process of developing a dog-friendly menu for pups to enjoy too.

The Finch on the range at 2 Margaret St, is open Monday to Wednesday 6.30am to 2pm, Thursday and Fridays 6.30am to 9pm and weekends 7am to 9pm.
