Three teens have been arrested after they allegedly broke into a home and stole a car – before crashing it in the northern suburbs in the early hours of this morning.
On Wednesday, at about 12.10am, police were travelling on Midway Road at Elizabeth Downs when they spotted a car on its side.
When police approached the car, they saw three people running away.
The Northern District patrols set up cordons and located the three youths on Hamblynn Road.
The arrested included the alleged driver, a 14-year-old boy from Oaklands Park, as well as the two passengers, a 17-year-old boy from Blakeview and a 14-year-old boy from Huntfield Heights.
Through checks, police determined the car had been stolen earlier in the night from an Elizabeth North address.
It will be alleged that the teens entered the home while the occupants were sleeping and stole a wallet, car keys, and the Ford utility from the garage.
The Ford had to be towed from the scene for forensic examination.
There was also considerable damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver was charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft, illegal use, driving unlicensed, driving without due care, leaving the scene of a crash and breach of bail.
The other two passengers were charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and theft.
They've been refused bail and will appear in Elizabeth Youth Court
