The Advertiser, 7NEWS Adelaide: Wingfield blaze, northern suburbs cyclists warned

A Mount Gambier man who allegedly threatened a police officer with an axe and drove through two fences during a wild rampage in Adelaide’s north has appeared in court.

Stanley Hullah, 37, appeared before Magistrate David White in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged with six counts of aggravated endangering life, damaging property, damaging a building or motor vehicle and assaulting a worker.

Following investigations into the break-in at a Blakeview service station on Friday, police attended an Elizabeth East home on Conyngham St just after 7pm on Monday.

Mr Hullah was allegedly seen sitting behind the wheel of a silver Ford station wagon, and when directed to exit the vehicle, began a three-point turn manoeuvre before driving through a fence near the police.

Officers were able to jump out of the way to avoid a collision, and the man allegedly sped off down Halsey Rd.

Police allegedly located the vehicle 40 minutes later at a Willaston address on Davies St.

The car allegedly reversed at speed and crashed into a parked police car, allegedly causing substantial damage.

Officers on scene managed to break the driver’s side window, but Mr Hullah allegedly swung a small hatchet at the officer before being hit with OC spray.

The man allegedly then drove forward through the property and through a rear fence before crashing into a resident’s vehicle parked on their driveway.

The resident, Bruce Fletcher, told 9 News Adelaide he heard what sounded like “an explosion” caused by the impact.

Mr Fletcher told Mr Hullah “you can’t get out here” after which he allegedly then struck Mr Fletcher’s car with the axe.

The shocked resident admitted he “breathed a sigh of relief” as plain clothed police arrived on the scene to apprehend Mr Hullah after macing him.

The 37-year-old man from Mount Gambier was then arrested.

During his court appearance, he did not make an application for bail.

Outside court, a supporter of Mr Hullah, who The Advertiser understands drove six hours to attend the hearing, told a reporter to “eat a d**k”.

The Advertiser understands that two local residents, who declined to be identified, heard “a commotion” outside to Davies St at Willaston on Monday, sometime between 7:45pm to 8pm.

However, they were unable to confirm if the commotion was related to the same incident

Police are still investigating the Blakeview service station break-in.

Mr Hullah will next appear in court in May.
