Once she’s fully recovered Mrs Cook said she plans on getting back in the water.

The 64-year-old swimming enthusiast was attacked by a suspected juvenile great white shark at 7.45am on the morning of October 2 near Beachport jetty, while she was on her morning swim with friends.

Mrs Cook was aided by shocked bystanders who heard her screaming and rushed to administer first aid by using a T-shirt to stop the bleeding, before emergency services arrived.

She was rushed to Mt Gambier Hospital were she remained in a stable condition after undergoing urgent surgery.

The attack, a rare incident in the cold waters, temporarily closed the picturesque beach, located 380km southeast of Adelaide.

Authorities attempted to search for the shark with boats and drones but were unable to find it.
