A student has been suspended after a fight broke out at Reynella East College on Thursday, resulting in police and paramedics being called.

The incident occurred just before 2pm. No arrests or charges were laid.

Principal, Warren Symonds said one student was immediately suspended after the fight, with further repercussions being considered.

“At lunchtime today a student assaulted another in an incident on a school oval,” he said.

“The victim was provided first aid before the SA Ambulance Service were called to the school along with the police.

“A student was immediately suspended as a result of this, with additional disciplinary action being considered.

“The families of both students were immediately contacted. Wellbeing support is being provided to the other student and family.”

Mr Symonds said support was being offered to other students who witnessed the incident, and the families of the two students involved had been notified.

SA Police said it was investigating the matter and would speak to the parents.

At the school on Thursday, a mother of three – who asked to remain anonymous – told The Advertiser that two of her children attend Reynella East College.

The woman said she only saw a police car when she arrived to pick up her two kids.

She said it was especially shocking to hear that two students had a fight as her experiences with the school leadership had always been positive.

“We’ve always had a great experience with the school,” she said.

“They have always gone above and beyond when my kids have needed help.”

The Advertiser went to the school on Friday, where it found many parents either unwilling or unable to comment on the fight, with several saying they hadn’t heard of it or weren’t aware of the specifics.

One parent did tell The Advertiser an email had been sent out from the school, saying the incident had occurred and been resolved, but reportedly didn’t include many details.

Reynella East College referred The Advertiser to the Education Department for comment when asked about the incident.

It comes after a mother spoke anonymously to 7News about her daughter being severely bullied at Reynella East College, including having her hair set alight in late 2024, and a fake Tik Tok account created to make fun of her in 2023.

The mother claims that the school was not doing enough to protect her daughter, and that a five-day suspension for her daughter’s bully was not sufficient.

The Department for Education told 7News that the school had a “zero-tolerance towards any bullying or violent behaviour”, and “took immediate and strong disciplinary action”.

The Advertiser has reached out to the Department regarding Thursday’s incident
