A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with a motorcycle’s strut pierced through his hand.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the MC Classics motorcycle store at 18 Main St in Proserpine about 2.30pm with reports a man’s hand was stuck in machinery.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said his hand had become caught in the suspension of a motorcycle, with the strut, similar to a shock absorber, still stuck in his hand as he was transferred to the ambulance.

It is understood while the man was trapped, the motorcycle had exerted as much as 86 tonnes of pressure.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the patient was aged in his 50s and was taken to Proserpine Hospital in a stable condition.

She said given the nature of his injury he may need to be transferred to another hospital for further treatment.
