Major upgrades are set to go ahead for three Stanthorpe public amenities blocks as part of an ongoing initiative across the region.

The project, worth $1.12m is funded by Sunwater and the state government to improve facilities for locals and visitors.

Southern Downs deputy mayor Sheryl Windle said the upgrades would serve as an investment in the region’s growth, creating welcoming and accessible spaces that promote community enjoyment.

“Parks and open spaces are essential for creating liveable, sustainable and resilient communities. They offer a range of benefits that enhance our quality of life and contribute to the health and wellbeing of our communities,” Mrs Windle said.

“Council is working on a series of redevelopment projects aimed at bolstering community facilities across the region and these projects have been selected based on feedback from the community.

“With the assistance of government funding, council is delivering much-needed facility upgrades that will provide locals and visitors with modern, functional and practical amenities.”

Mrs Windle said the redevelopment projects would also support industries, businesses and the resilience of the local economy.

“By investing in the upgrade of public toilet blocks and recreational facilities, council is laying the groundwork for a more vibrant and prosperous community, fostering growth and opportunity for residents and businesses alike,” she said.

The existing toilet block at Brock Park will remain open while temporary toilets will be provided at Jim Mitchell Park.

The Jim Mitchell, McGregor and Brock Park projects are funded by the Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, while the Leslie Dam project is funded by Sunwater and the Queensland Community Fishing Grants Program.

Upgrades to public amenities at McGregor Park, Brock Park, Jim Mitchell Park at Dalveen, and Boat Ramp Rd at Leslie Dam is scheduled for competition before June 30.
