Crime wrap: thefts, assault and fatal crash keeps police busy in the last week

Rose City police have been kept busy after a big seven days with break-ins, assaults reported, as well as several crashes - including one which sadly resulted in a fatality. Here’s what you’ve missed in the last week.

One person has sadly died following a horror crash south of the Rose City which is just one of a handful of matters keeping local police busy over the last week.

Here’s what you’ve missed over the past seven days.

Fatal crash

On Sunday, at around 11am, a fatal crash occurred on the New England Highway at The Glen, south of Warwick.

Initial investigations indicate shortly after 11am, a group of motorcycles were travelling in convoy when one left the roadway and crashed.

The rider, a 58-year-old Regents Park man, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

No other riders were injured as a result of the incident.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV from the area to come

forward.

The crash is being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit.

Assault

Early on Wednesday morning, a man was reportedly punched following an argument at an Albion St hostel.

Police are currently investigating.

Crashes

• A man was issued an infringement notice after two vehicle crash on September 5 at the intersection of Dragon and Wood streets.

Police allege the driver of a Honda sedan attempted to cross the intersection and collided with a Mercedes-Benz prime mover travelling east on Wood St.

Luckily, neither driver was injured as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Honda sedan, a 23-year-old Southport man, was issued with an Infringement Notice for Disobeying a Traffic Sign.

• On Wednesday afternoon, a two vehicle non-injury traffic crash occurred at the intersection of Guy and Albert streets at Warwick.

A 30-year-old Warwick man was issued with an Infringement Notice for Failing to Give Way.

Break and enter

• Police received information that a caravan parked at an address in Glen Rd was broken into on September 5.

A quantity of tools and computer equipment was stolen, and police are continuing investigations.

• On Thursday a resident of Wentworth St reported to police that weeks earlier someone has gained entry to her house and stolen a set of car keys.

Police are continuing with investigations.

Traffic matters

• At about 2am on September 4, a 25-year-old Warwick woman was intercepted driving on Wood St at Warwick.

Police checked her licence and it was revealed her drivers licence had allegedly been disqualified.

The woman will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court next week.

• On Saturday, A 34-year-old Clintonvale man was intercepted driving on the Cunningham Highway at Sladevale.

The man was allegedly found to have drugs in his system following a roadside test and will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court for drug driving at the end of October.
