A man has been charged with murder over the death of his mother’s partner, four days after police allege the older man suffered horrific injuries when he was attacked with a sword in his own home.

Jayden Wade Doyle was charged with attempted murder following the alleged grisly attack, with the charge upgraded to murder following confirmation on Wednesday evening that the 56-year-old had died in hospital.

It will be alleged the older man was left for dead inside his Millmerran home after suffering critical injuries when his hand was chopped with a samurai sword following a dispute with the son of his partner.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said police will allege the attack was unprovoked and occurred as a result of Mr Doyle demanding that Mr Peasley hand over his car keys.

Police will further allege that Mr Doyle’s mother ran to a neighbouring property where the occupant called triple-0.

Police were called to the Flamingo Rd property about 8pm Sunday, where the alleged victim was found with significant injuries to his neck, back and shoulder.

He was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, with police confirming the man died on Wednesday evening.

Mr Doyle was located at a nearby service station on Sunday evening and taken into police custody without incident.

The 25-year-old Dubbo man is also charged with robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and going armed to cause fear.

Sergeant McCusker said Mr Doyle had been staying at the property for four days and had limited contact with police prior to the incident.

Mr Doyle appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, where his lawyer advised it was unlikely he would apply for bail.

In the same court on Thursday Mr Doyle’s solicitor Alysha Jacobsen told the court her client was in the watch house and wasn’t required in court.

Police prosecutor Rohan Brewster-Webb said the prosecution would offer no evidence on the charge of attempted murder and produced a replacement charge of murder.

Magistrate Louise Shephard directed the police to disclose the brief of evidence by June 1 and remanded Mr Doyle in custody and adjourned his case for committal mention back in the same court on June 15.

Police investigations into the man’s death are ongoing.
