Wurtulla mum Jacinda Barzan dies in e-scooter crash at Caloundra
A mother-of-two has died after losing control of an e-scooter on the Sunshine Coast, prompting loved ones to launch a fundraiser.
A Sunshine Coast mother-of-two has been identified as the 33-year-old woman who tragically died after an e-scooter crash at the weekend.
Wurtulla woman, Jacinda ‘Cinny’ Barzan, was rushed to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital on Sunday after an e-scooter incident in Aroona, and later died from her injuries, Queensland police confirmed on Tuesday morning.
A GoFundMe created to support Ms Barzan’s two young children and partner stated the 33-year-old lost control of the e-scooter she was riding around midday on Sunday.
A friend of Ms Barzan also shared a post to social media remembering the 33-year-old for singing, dancing and “crazy antics”.
“I will miss singing and dancing to our gangster rap tunes and crazy antics so much! I’ll always be thinking of you,” she said.
“I can’t believe you’re gone.
“You will always be in my heart Cin and the memories we made together will stay with me forever.
“You were one a kind Cin Cin.
“I wish I could have got to see you one last time!
“You will be deeply missed and be the angel watching over your two beautiful children.”
The GoFundMe stated those who knew Ms Barzan were going through “unimaginable pain right now.”
“Any kind of donation will help ease the unnecessary worry while they go through this traumatic life event,” the fundraiser stated.
The death of Ms Barzan comes less than two months after eight-year-old Zeke Hondow was killed in an e-scooter incident in Mountain Creek.
The most recent tragedy prompted a fresh warning from Sunshine Coast South Patrol Group Acting Inspector Brendan Davis regarding the use of personal mobility devices.
He addressed the media about the fatality at a press conference on December 9 outside of the Caloundra Police Station.
Mr Davis said the fatality was being investigated, and gave a fresh warning about e-mobility use.
“This is the second fatality within number of weeks in relation to e bikes or personal mobility devices,” Mr Davis said.
“We want to send a clear message to the community to make sure that if you’re going to use these vehicles that they have the appropriate equipment, that they’re licensed to drive and operate those scooters, and that they adhere to the road rules.”
He also said that parents should do “the appropriate research” if they were buying an e-mobility device for loved ones this Christmas.
Mr Davis also said he had “no details” on whether the e-scooter had any modifications.
Police are continuing to appeal for CCTV or dashcam footage of Sunday’s incident.
