A woman has died after a tragic e-scooter crash on the Sunshine Coast, prompting police to warn families about the dangers of personal mobility devices.
A woman has died in hospital after an e-scooter crash on a Sunshine Coast road.
Paramedics and police rushed to Beerburrum St in Aroona about 12.30pm on December 7 after the Wurtulla woman received significant injuries from the single e-scooter crash.
The woman was taken with life-threatening injuries to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, and has since died.
Sunshine Coast South Patrol Group Acting Inspector Brendan Davis said there had been “too many” injuries and deaths as a result of personal mobility devices across the Sunshine Coast.
Eight-year-old Mountain Creek boy, Zeke Hondow, died in hospital after the e-bike he was riding collided with a 15-year-old boy riding another e-bike on a path near Kawana Way and Sunshine Mwy in Mountain Creek on October 30.
“This is the second person to lose their life as a result of an e-bike or e-scooter accident so far this year,” Mr Davis said.
“Coming into the Christmas school holidays there will be even more people who will be out and about on (personal mobility devices).”
The police officer warned families this tragedy is a reminder of “what can go horribly wrong”.
“Remember, if you are going to ride one of these devices to always wear a helmet, abide by the road rules and be aware of your surroundings,” Act Insp Davis said.
Police are appealing to anyone with CCTV footage, relevant information or dashcam vision to come forward.
