The Sunshine Coast community has been rocked by the unexpected death of Sunshine Beach State High School teacher and Champs Sports Aerobics owner Deidre Bryant while holidaying in Prague.

Mrs Bryant, who died on November 7 at the age of 64, was a founding staff member at Sunshine Beach State High in 1992 where she worked as a teacher aide before taking on the role of admin and executive assistant.

Mrs Bryant grew up in Enoggera before she moved to Tewantin in 1985 with her husband Ken.

The Bryants had one daughter Casey Douglas and a granddaughter, Chloe.

Mrs Douglas said her mum spent her final hours with family following Chloe’s sixth place finish at the Federation of International Sport Aerobics and Fitness world championships in Czech Republic.

“Our last day was a perfect mum, daughter and granddaughter day in Prague,” Mrs Douglas said.

“It will always be one of my favourite memories.

“We had a lovely breakfast, had her makeup done by Chloe, hot chocolate and macarons, shopping, dinner and watching the world gymnastics championships together.”

Mrs Bryant had been a sports aerobics judge since 2003 and was known as a stickler for rules.

She served on many technical committees to further grow the sport and was a very well-respected, experienced judge having only recently judged the World Sport Aerobics Championships in Czech Republic about a week ago.

Mrs Bryant was a co-owner of Champs Sport Aerobics with Mrs Douglas and loved to attend as many training sessions as she could.

Mrs Douglas said her mum always had time for her family.

“Deidre really enjoyed her time with her husband Ken, her loved ones and spending quality time with her granddaughter Chloe,” Mrs Douglas said.

“She will be remembered for willingness to help and care for anyone.

“She has been a big part of many children's lives through sport aerobics.”

A Facebook post from FISAF Australia read, “Deidre was a highly-regarded and beloved member of the FISAF Community for over two decades”.

“She enriched our community in so many ways, for which we will be forever grateful,” it said.

Sunshine Beach State High School said via a Facebook post Mrs Bryant would be sorely missed.

“Deidre’s corporate knowledge of our school is unsurpassed, and she has always been a strong advocate for our school, with both her daughter and granddaughter also attending SBSHS,” they said.

“She was a beloved staff member, and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and many friends at this difficult time.”
