Work off that Easter treat!

A rising sports aerobics talent is about to realise a dream when she represents Australia at a global event.

Sunshine Beach State High School student Chloe Douglas was one of three junior athletes to be selected for Australia and will travel to Ostrava, Czech Republic in November for the FISAF International World Championships after finishing third at the recent National Championships.

The 13-year-old, who has been competing since she was five-years-old, said the past few weeks had been very exciting.

“I’m really excited, mostly to travel to a different country and compete,” she said.

“I do get nervous before I compete but I’m okay once I get started because I think I really enjoy just being on the stage.”

Douglas, who trains five days a week at Champ Sports Aerobics, was the club’s first athlete at this elite level to be selected as an individual competitor.

Her mother and head coach Casey said she was incredibly proud of her achievements.

“You have to be of a certain standard to be selected for the Australian team so along with her third place finish at Nationals Chloe also came first at the school aerobics national championships,” she said.

“I’m extremely proud of her, she’s been working towards this since she was seven-years-old.

“She watched my other athletes at the World Championships in 2015 and has since been working her way there a lot more seriously since 2019 but there’s been a delay on the event due to Covid-19.”

Chloe trains five days a week on stage and with an exercise physiologist and regularly travels to Newcastle, NSW, for her choreography.

Her mum said the pair would be working extra hard in the coming weeks.

“It’s very exciting, obviously it’s a huge thing to make an Australian team and we leave in just over 30 days so we’ll be putting in that extra hard work now,” she said.
