Finals are quickly approaching after a bumper round 12 in the Sunshine Coast rugby union A-grade competition.

The Caboolture Snakes were able to grab their first victory of the season in a 24-17 win over Wynnum while University edged out Noosa 32-28 in a grand final rematch.

Maroochydore got the better of Brothers away from home with a 45-33 victory, sneaking their spot into the top four.

Top of the table Caloundra will return from their week off to play Noosa in round 13 while Caboolture host University and Maroochydore welcome Wynnum.

See which players were the top performers in round 12.

SCRU RD 12 TOTW

1. Blake Bradley (Maroochydore)

Stepped up and produced a huge shift in the absence of both Swans starting props (Isaac Talbot and Lachlan Moffat).

Bradley stood tall against a tough Brothers pack and was well supported by Tom Lynch.

2. Robert Panipasa (Caboolture)

Panipasa played at tight-head for the Snakes but his work on both sides of the ball was too hard to ignore.

He was great at the scrums and took plenty of carries to get his side rolling forward.

3. Jacob Pinkney (University)

Another prop that stood tall in a tough battle through the middle.

Pinkney tucked and ran countless times and was a threat in defence with some stinging hits.

4. Mitch Schneider (Maroochydore)

Schneider took over as captain with Talbot out injured and helped steer his side to a key victory against Brothers.

He scored a try of his own but his work in defence was extremely noticeable with great set tackles, scrambling defence and ruck work.

5. Lathaniel Timaloa (Caboolture)

The Snake’s second rower had his first A-grade game against the Bugs where he finished as one of his side’s best.

Timaloa scored two tries and was outstanding on both sides of the ball.

6. Billy Tait (Noosa)

Stood tall in a undermanned Noosa forward pack with threatening attacking advantage line runs and impressive work at the ruck.

Turned the ball over and helped keep his side in the momentum wrestle.

7. Noah Talbot (Maroochydore)

Has been a consistent workhorse for the Swans this season and was strong again on Saturday with big tackles and pilfering efforts at the breakdown.

The youngest Talbot was strong and damaging with the ball too.

8. Luke Kimber (University)

Back in the side but played number eight against Noosa.

The Barbarians captain was inspirational on Saturday, finishing the match with practically one arm and throwing his body into the Dolphins attack.

9. Levi Wairau (University)

Has gone to a new level in recent weeks and was a key player for the Barbarians once again on Saturday.

His service was top shelf, had a threatening running game and picked out some tired defenders to score a nice individual try of his own.

10. Shaun Fletcher (Caboolture)

Wearing the number 19 jersey Fletcher helped guide his side to their first win of the season against Wynnum on Saturday.

He controlled the pace and flow of the game really well, his kicking game kept the Bugs on the back foot and he scored a try of his own.

11. Rohan Nichol (Maroochydore)

The Queensland schoolboy played at outside centre for the Swans in his A-grade debut but his efforts alone were worth a spot in the team of the week.

Nichol defended really strongly and snagged a five-pointer of his own in Maroochydore’s 12-point win.

12. Albert Polu (Noosa)

Was Noosa’s best against University with solid front foot ball and grabbed the attention of multiple defenders each time he got his hands on the ball.

His link up play with Joey Caputo at 10 was impressive and he scored a try of his own.

13. Alex Sinclair (Wynnum)

The Bugs captain has been a great addition to his side since returning from injury and he was a standout in their defeat to Caboolture on Saturday.

The crafty outside back scored two tries of his own and kept his side in the contest.

14. Jack Buckley (Brothers)

Buckley was a shining light for Brothers on Saturday with a stunning individual try in the first half.

A nice in and away allowed him to scoot down the right hand touchline before chipping the covering Swans defence to score next to the posts.

15. Shaquille Rangi (University)

His positional play and attacking link with his outside backs was very very good on Saturday.

He injected himself into the play well at times but his work in defence at tracking the play was very positive.

Stopped a certain Noosa try in his side’s four-point win.

Honourable mentions: Joey Caputo (Noosa), Olly Willis (University), Will Kleinschmidt (University), Beniame Lagi (Caboolture), Oscar Torrens (Caboolture), Richard Faasisila (Brothers), Tye James (Maroochydore), Tom Lynch (Maroochydore) and Ian Filipo (Maroochydore).
