A Sunshine Coast family has had a lucky escape after their home was crushed by a massive tree overnight while they were inside.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said the tree fell onto a home on Centenary Heights Rd, near the corner of Warrack St, Coolum, about 9.30pm last night, causing significant damage.
He said the house collapsed underneath its weight and there was significant structural damage.
The QFD spokesman said the family was home when it happened but all escaped safely and were uninjured.
Energex assessed the site for safety and the house was taped off with heavy equipment required to begin removing the tree.
The homeowners were distressed and shaken by the event and declined to comment at this time.
SES advise people to stay away from fallen trees and powerlines and call emergency services for help.
