Noosa locals have taken to social media to voice their shock after a popular and longstanding service station abruptly announced their imminent closure.
A social media post has raised questions surrounding the announcement by Ampol at one of their Tewantin sites earlier this week, adding the “the great service will certainly be missed”.
“What’s going on with Tewantin? First they shut the markets, then the state wants to force four-storey buildings on us, and now the much loved Ampol is shutting down on short notice,” the post stated.
Ampol’s notice said the site would be “permanently closing” on March 10, 2025 and referred customers to an alternative site at 28 Eenie Creek Rd in Noosaville.
The site at the corner of Doonella St and Memorial Ave, which most recently operated as an Ampol store after previously being a Caltex, has been a service station since 1983.
Other members from the Tewantin community quickly joined in the social media discussion.
“Yep, it is a shame. Great staff and service. Will be missed,” another commenter said.
One local described it as their go-to service station and said they were “gobsmacked that it is closing”, with another person pointing to other recent closures in the area.
“The banks are gone, the police station is gone, and now we are faced with another loss in the hub of this community. Hoping that someone out there knows what is going on?” they said.
Property data shows the 1,199 sqm corner site was last sold by Caltex Oil (Australia) Pty Limited in August 2018 for $3.12m to Natalie and Denis Dundovic.
The property neighbours the state government’s proposed Doonella St Precinct site, which is set to include three-storey residential buildings to provide housing support in the region.
Ampol was contacted by this publication for comment.
