A motorcyclist who crashed on a busy Sunshine Coast road is not only facing a long road to recovery including major surgeries but must also consider the possibility he will not work as a roofer again.

Yandina resident Len Taylor was riding on Currie St in Nambour on April 5 when the crash occurred, not far from home.

Family friend Bonnie Munro said others pulled over to help the 36-year-old dad-of-two, including a trainee firefighter and a woman who held an umbrella over him to protect him from the sun as he stayed on the road in pain.

Emergency crews helped Mr Taylor phone his wife, Briana, who is Ms Munro’s best friend.

Ms Munro and Ms Taylor went to Nambour and were confronted with the crash and paramedics treating the motorcyclist.

“We got to the accident and she was not good, she was shaking and crying,” Ms Munro said.

Ms Taylor said the crash had left Mr Taylor with several severe injuries including broken bones and extensive grazes and bruising.

“On top of the physical trauma, he’s struggling with the mental and emotional toll of such a sudden and devastating event,” she said.

“He has undergone two surgeries, with a third on the horizon.”

She said he faced months of immobility and was relying on a wheelchair.

Ms Taylor said her husband’s recovery was expected to take about nine months and he remained in the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Ms Munro said the 36-year-old dad may not walk the same again and may not return to his roofing career.

“They’ve got to overcome that, as well, if he can’t do his career what is he going to do,” she said.

Ms Munro created a GoFundMe following the crash and it has raised nearly $14,000 of its $20,000 target.

“He does deserve the recognition, he’s such a gentle person,” she said.

Ms Munro said Mr Taylor was the main breadwinner for his family and they were desperate for help to pay the mortgage and car loans, plus other bills, and mounting medical and surgery costs.
