Parents are begging for action after a student at a Sunshine Coast primary school allegedly smashed a metal object across the head of a classmate in a violent attack.

It is understood the alleged attack happened at Golden Beach State School on Wednesday, August 28.

A parent, who wanted to remain anonymous, said a student smashed a classmate over the head with a metal thermo container.

“There was blood everywhere,” the parent said.

“Multiple students have been a victim on several occasions to this student’s violent and sexual harassment of both boys and girls.

“My child is genuinely traumatised and now feels unsafe going to school after witnessing so much blood.

“Due to the ongoing issues, us parents want the child expelled due to the risk they are.”

The parent said they were “very disappointed” the school only notified them via a message from the principal at 5.33pm, hours after the incident.

The message from Golden Beach State School principal Greg Ferdinands, seen by this publication, confirmed the alleged attack.

“As some of you might already be aware, a student behaviour incident occurred at our school today,” Mr Ferinands said.

“I want to reassure you that we treat the safety and welfare of your children – our students – and that of our staff as our highest priority at all times.

“Golden Beach does not tolerate violence and anti-social behaviour, and continues to work diligently to promote safe and respectful interactions between students and a safe learning environment for everyone in the school community.

“While I appreciate your desire to understand the specifics of these matters, I am sure you would understand that I am unable to go into any details at this time.

“Guidance officer support is available at the school for any students and staff who may require it.

“Thank you for your continuing support of Golden Beach State School.”

A spokesman for the Department of Education said they were aware of the incident.

“First aid was provided from the school to the injured student and their caregivers were contacted to attend the school and collect their child,” the spokesman said.

“The school will continue to offer ongoing support to the student’s family.

“The school prioritised the management of the incident and communicated with parents of students impacted. A whole-school communication was provided to all parents later that day and counselling services are available to any students requiring support.

“The department encourages students, parents and carers to immediately report any cases of bullying or misconduct to their school principal in the first instance, or their closest Department of Education regional office.

“Safety is paramount at all state schools including Golden Beach State School, which has strategies and policies in place for students and teachers.”
