Stolen car found in ocean at Kings Beach, Caloundra

A stolen car has been dumped at a popular beach on the Sunshine Coast – with onlookers braving chilly waters on Friday to check for anyone inside.

A stolen car has been dumped in the ocean at a popular beach on the Sunshine Coast – with onlookers braving the chilly water on Friday morning to check there was no one inside.

Police are investigating after the car was found submerged near the Kings Beach boat ramp, Margaret St, at Caloundra.

A Queensland police spokeswoman said they believed the car had been stolen and dumped.

She said the owners had been contacted and investigations were ongoing.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said they were also on scene just before 7.30am.

A tow truck has since removed the car from the ocean.

Photos of the car were posted on the What’s happening around Caloundra Facebook page.

Caloundra’s Lawson Fox spotted the car about 6.15am.

“I swam out and checked for any occupants inside the car and thankfully there was none,” he wrote on the page.

“Hopefully the owner of this car is all OK … sending prayers.”

Sunshine Coast locals applauded Mr Fox for his efforts on such a cold morning.

“Thank you for taking a very cold swim to check for occupants,” Margaux Ellis wrote.

“So incredibly proud of you my wonderful husband for safely going and checking for any occupants, mainly a child inside,” Emily Fox added.

“Ya can’t park there,” Kylie Rose said.

“Def dumped. What pigs!!! Hope the poor people have insurance,” Janet Thomas said.
