The aroma of roast chicken, chips and gravy proved too hard to resist for one rider who picked up a horseback snack at a Noosaville fast food restaurant.

Red Rooster Noosaville staff were left stunned after a horse and rider trotted into the drive-through to pick up a whole chicken and family chips on a Monday afternoon.

Store owner David Graham – who took over in February – said the bizarre purchase on Monday, August 2, had left staff in stitches.

“It was just extraordinary,” he said.

“I wasn't there at the time but the manager rang me and said you wouldn't believe what’s just happened.

“They (horse and rider) came up to the speaker but because the girl was quite high the girls inside with the headphone couldn't hear so they asked them to come up to window.

“Because we don't have a camera there when they came up to the window it was like ‘wow’.”

With the region enduring a tough time during lockdown, Mr Graham said it had been “hilarious” and had lifted spirits of his staff.

“It made our day in what was a pretty gloomy Monday,” he said.

“We take cars, 4WDs, mini mokes and motorbikes but I’ve never had a horse come up to the drive through.”

Inspired by the quirky scene, Mr Graham has even started a competition on Red Rooster Noosaville’s Instagram for whoever can provide the best caption for photos of the event.

The prize, of course, is a family roast and bale of hay.

“We’ve had a few captions, but nothing extraordinary at this point, so I’m just waiting on something to really jump out of the box at me,” he said.

He said he’d run the competition until Friday.
