Top suburbs where it's cheaper to buy than rent

A dramatic dwelling taking shape in Doonan will become home for an architect and builder who decided to stretch her creativity during her latest project.

Blackwood Doonan is the brainchild of Sarah Waller.

“You have a blank canvas when you are the owner and the architect,” she said.

“I wanted it to be bold.”

Ms Waller said influence did not come into play during the design of this home though it had more commercial industrial and “sharp” elements in it.

Although she was ready to start the build in November, 2021, the weather wreaked havoc on the plans and construction was delayed until June, 2022.

Since then, though, Ms Waller said they had “really motored” and would start roofing the home this week.

“It’s so rewarding seeing the shapes and forms come together,” she said.

Ms Waller’s masterpiece was one of several sensational homes among the architectural feats dotting the Noosa region.

An award-winning Sunshine Beach dwelling also doubling as a stunning holiday home is another that catches the eye.

Domic, which is Russian for house of domes, is owned by Russian hemp tycoon Evgeny Skigin and is available to rent online.

In 2021, Australian Traveller named it one of Australia’s most unique homes.
