A Sunshine Coast man has offered up his land to people struggling with a housing crisis plaguing the region.

James and Michelle Harrop are offering their property in Wolvi to people with their own accommodation to lend a hand to those displaced from their housing crisis.

A Sunshine Coast man has offered up his land to people struggling with a housing crisis plaguing the region.

James Harrop reached out to the community on social media to share his 2.8ha property at Wolvi with those who have their own accommodation, such as caravans.

Originally from the UK, Mr Harrop said he had been touched by the stories of people who were struggling due to rent increases or lack of rentals available across the Coast and Gympie areas.

"I've been reading a lot about the housing crisis and a lot of families are struggling to beat the increased rent or just simply being given notice at the end of the term of their lease," Mr Harrop said.

"I just wanted to do my bit because you know we call all bang on and talk about what we should do."

James and Michelle Harrop are offering their property in Wolvi to people with their own accommodation to lend a hand to those displaced from their housing crisis.

The 46-year-old and his wife Michelle came up with the idea to offer pitches on their site for a small fee.

"The idea was to give people a pitch, families, single people, whoever was in need at a very low rent," he said.

"(It's) basically just to cover the electric and water and (for) them to get back on their feet, whatever period that might be."

Mr Harrop and his wife have only been on the Coast for two years after making the move north from Sydney.

"It's a beautiful little setting," he said of Wolvi.

"It's got an outside bathroom and utilities.

"It's safe, it's secure and it will give them a chance to rest and take a deep breath."

James and Michelle Harrop are offering their property in Wolvi to people with their own accommodation to lend a hand to those displaced from their housing crisis.

Mrs Harrop works as a nurse while Mr Harrop is looking for work after losing his job due to the pandemic.

The newlyweds have been overwhelmed by the community's response to their offer.

"We've got one lady coming to see us tomorrow, she's currently at the Maleny campgrounds and she feels a bit unsafe there," Mr Harrop said.

"We've had this beautiful soul from Mooloolaba who said that he would give us a caravan to allow people to use his caravan on our land.

"I can only do as little as I said but it's something I can do."

Mr Harrop said due to regulations only four pitches were available on site.

"I think people read it (the offer) and think why are they doing that, what's in it for them," he said.

"There is no catch, it's literally just us doing a bit for them and have a little community here."
