REVEALED: Suburbs with approvals through the roof

Nearly two houses, units or townhouses were given the go-ahead each day in the suburb which recorded the highest number of building approvals.

Nearly two houses, units or townhouses were given the go-ahead each day in Caloundra West, the suburb which recorded the highest number of residential building approvals last financial year.

The greater Caloundra area had the highest number of approvals in the region with 860, compared to 825 the previous year.

Of the latest approvals, 633 were in Caloundra West, where Stockland is developing the Aura masterplanned community.

Once complete, the self-contained centre is set to be the home to 50,000 new residents – the size of Gladstone.

Parrearra – Warana was the Caloundra area’s next-highest growth area with 118 new buildings approved, followed by Golden Beach with 34, Moffat Beach to Battery Hill with 25, Wurtulla with 23, Buddina to Minyama with 16, Caloundra to Kings Beach with 6, and Aroona to Currimundi with 5.

The Sunshine Coast hinterland area recorded the next-highest number at 666, with 419 of these in Landsborough.

  • The remaining hinterland suburbs included Palmwoods with 86, Glass House Mountains with 53, Caloundra hinterland with 51, Maroochy hinterland with 30 and Beerwah with 27.

    In the 2018-19 financial year the Sunshine Coast hinterland had the highest number of residential building approvals, 869.
