Plans to build 22 townhouses in Brightwater on a block once earmarked for a retirement village have been revealed.

An application has been lodged for Sunshine Coast Council approval for The Freshwater Townhouses project.

The unit complex would be built on lot 3 at the northeastern corner of Freshwater St and Brightwater Blvd, Mountain Creek, opposite the Brightwater Hotel and close to Brightwater State School.

An application to build a retirement village on the same block, owned by Freedom Aged Care Kawana, had previously been considered by council.

Approval was granted in 2015 for the retirement village for up to 270 residents as well as a shop and restaurant, however the development never eventuated.

Adams Spark Town Planning lodged the new application with the council on behalf of Sunshine Coast-based developers Exelero Property Development.

The reports revealed the developer also intended to build an indoor sport and recreation public pool and an early learning child care centre at one of the neighbouring lots, under plans already approved by council.

The company proposed to build three two-storey buildings for the unit complex, which would be about eight metres tall.

The plans reveal there will be six types of units, each with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

It was proposed to have 49 carparks (44 resident spaces and 5 visitor bays), bicycle storage within the dual garage of each unit and a visitor bicycle rack.

The application states the development will “support the maintenance of a people focused area by establishing higher density residential dwellings within proximity to existing services and business uses”.

The cost of the project was yet to be determined.
