A neighbour has recounted how a family fled their Sunshine Coast home in the early morning after a blaze started with two vehicles under the house and quickly spread.

Emergency services were called to reports of the house fire on Cromwell Street in Battery Hill at 1.47am on Sunday.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said nine crews attended the incident and everyone was out of the two-storey brick house.

Neighbour Chris Gough said residents from across the street saw the flames and knocked on their door to notify Mr Gough’s household of the fire.

“There was some banging and explosions going on,” he said.

Mr Gough said a mother, father, son and his girlfriend were inside at the time but got out unscathed.

“They got very little out of the house, from what I understand,” he said.

The neighbours had feared for their own property, with the wind blowing the flames towards the home and over the roof.

The burnt interior of the upper floor could be seen through the windows following the fire at Cromwell St.

A plastic pipe by their water tank slightly melted from the heat but their fence was surprisingly not burnt to a crisp.

The Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said when the first crew arrived on scene at 1.50am two vehicles under the two-storey brick house were on fire.

She said the fire spread and moved its way to the house but crews extinguished the fire by 2.30am.

The fire investigation unit has been requested to attend, she said.

Queensland Ambulance Service did not need to treat anyone on scene.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the fire appeared to be non-suspicious.
