Ty Keith Gatti pleads guilty to driving dangerous on Peachester Rd

A Sunshine Coast man had just bought a new car when he decided to do some burnouts and speed along a popular hinterland road.

A Sunshine Coast man who just bought a new car and wanted to see what it could do has been barred from getting behind the wheel after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Ty Keith Gatti, 36, entered his guilty plea in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 18, 2022.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Nick Nitschke said Gatti had been driving his Nissan Skyline along Peachester Rd, Peachester at 9.30pm on December 18, 2021, when he was spotted by a passing car to be driving dangerously.

The court heard a passenger in that car recorded Gatti’s erratic driving on the windy road to show police.

Sergeant Nitschke said Gatti had been seen to do a “large burnout” before he continued driving at times on the wrong side of the road.

The court heard Gatti had been seen to cross the white lines “about four times” at least before he returned to the right side of the road and sped off along the 60km/hr stretch of road.

Duty lawyer Rachel Holland said Gatti admitted he’d done the wrong thing while he was behind the wheel that night.

“He simply tells me he got a new car and did something stupid,” Ms Holland said.

Magistrate Kurt Fowler said Gatti, who has a limited traffic history, should have known better before he drove dangerously.

“You’re not 18 driving around in an SS Commodore, you’re 36,” Mr Fowler said.

“People speak highly of you, your traffic history is quite brief.

“I accept it’s out of character but it is what the charge is and that’s dangerous driving.”

Gatti was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for six months.

No conviction was recorded.
