A Landsborough man accused of being linked to a large stash of heroin in his girlfriend’s underwear along with a cocktail of other drugs has pushed for his release on bail.
Travis Ryan McNeil, 34, and his partner Anikee Doreen Judy Sarre, 29, have been in custody since November 21 last year following an intercept by Maroochydore detectives where multiple baggies of heroin and a cocktail of narcotics were found in their possession.
Details of his alleged involvement in the multi-drug bust were heard during his bail application in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday where he faces nine charges which included five counts of possessing a dangerous drug and one of possessing drugs over the schedule.
Police allege the pair was spotted leaving the Top Spot Motel at Maroochydore about 9.30am when Maroochydore Criminal Investigation Branch detectives began to tail them.
The pair, after trying to allegedly lose police by driving through a nearby car wash, were pulled over at the Maroochydore Beach Holiday Park with officers swiftly pulling the keys from the black BMW as they believed McNeil, who was the driver, was going to flee.
Court documents state the pair were allegedly abusive to officers.
As another police crew arrived, officers allegedly saw Sarre conceal “something down the front of her pants”, court documents state.
Due to no women police officers being at the intercept, Sarre was transported to the Maroochydore Police Station where a woman officer assisted.
Meanwhile McNeil was arrested and the vehicle searched, which allegedly uncovered 12 suboxone capsules, syringes and false plates.
Court documents state when Sarre was taken to the station and searched officers allegedly uncovered a sunglasses bag concealed in the 29-year-old’s underwear which contained prescription drugs, meth and a large amount of heroin.
Photos tendered in court seen by this publication show the heroin packaged into small balls of glad wrap, which were filled into small clip seal bags.
McNeill was interviewed by police and allegedly made admissions to knowing about the drugs but stated they were for personal use.
A search warrant was conducted on their motel room, where police allege they uncovered marijuana, GHB, discarded blister packs, drug utensils and $3800 cash.
Sarre applied for bail shortly after her arrest but this was refused and was remanded in custody with her matters still before the courts.
McNeil opted not to apply for bail until Thursday through Legal Aid solicitor Michael Robinson, who told the court the 34-year-old could abide by strict conditions including taking part in a revamped drug program. He also had steady work on offer as a labourer.
Mr Robinson said the only evidence against the Landsborough man, who was a heroin addict, was the statement he volunteered during his police interview where he claimed the drugs were for personal use, even though the heroin was allegedly found in Sarre’s underwear.
The solicitor said the bail objection allegedly “painted the picture” the 34-year-old was a drug dealer due to the drugs and cash found however there were no additional charges even after the Landsborough man’s phone was analysed.
The court heard McNeil finished parole for other offences on November 2 but had a long criminal history.
Police prosecutor Shane Raison objected to McNeil’s bail, saying the court could not have confidence he would return to court and was in range of more jail time.
Mr Madsen agreed with the prosecution, and believed there was a clear nexus between the 34-year-old’s drug use and crime.
McNeil had his bail refused and will return to court on February 3 where his girlfriend’s matters will also be mentioned.
None have entered pleas.
