Police continue to search the steep, hilly terrain near Montville for any sign of Edan Huntington who has been missing for about 10 weeks.

Mr Huntington was visiting family in Montville when he left unexpectedly and without notifying anyone in the early hours of January 18.

He left in a grey Ford Territory with New South Wales registration.

Throughout March, police have focused their search efforts near where Mr Huntington’s vehicle was last seen in Montville and have hunted for any signs of him in Baroon Pocket Dam.

This week, a car part and a bag were found during one of the land searches but police have since confirmed the car part does not belong to Mr Huntington’s vehicle and the bag was not his.

Nambour Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Constable Chris Lawson said police were asking landowners within the area near Razorback and Palmwoods Montville roads to check their properties for signs of the missing man.

He said this was the next area in which police would focus their efforts.

“We’ve exhausted one area but are continuing the search,” Senior Constable Lawson said.

Detective Sergeant Paul Reilly said the search area was “so rugged and overgrown” they continued to rely on the expertise of Queensland Fire and Rescue and an ex-military group that specialised in terrain of that nature.

He said although police were still focused on the range, they were open to receiving any information about the missing man even if it came from outside Montville.

The detective sergeant also said police were still hoping to make contact with a hitchhiker who was seen in vicinity of Mr Huntington’s car on the day he went missing but appeared to be travelling in the opposite direction.

The woman, described as being in her late 30s or early 40s with dark long hair that was tied back, was seen shortly after 4am walking along Main St, near Hoffman Crt.

Anyone who has seen Mr Huntington or his vehicle, a grey Ford Territory with the NSW registration CQG59F, or who could have any information which could help police is urged to contact police.qld.gov.au/reporting or phone 131 444.
