Police zero in on Montville in Edan Huntington search on Sunshine Coast

Police have started to search for a missing Mermaid Waters man near a Sunshine Coast hinterland town as his mum prepares for the worst outcome.

Edan Huntington's mum Delia Harpur is losing hope of finding her son alive as the police search for him is in its fourth week.

Police have started to comb an area in the Sunshine Coast hinterland for missing man Edan Huntington.

Last week, detectives revealed their plans to search about a 6km radius close to Montville.

Nambour Detective Senior Constable Gary Purtell said police had begun the search at the weekend, with police on foot and a drone also used.

“We haven’t identified anything that has led us to believe we know where he is,” he said.

Mr Huntington’s mum Delia Harpur last week said the family at first had considered foul play to explain the 28-year-old Mermaid Waters man’s disappearance.

Mr Huntington was visiting Montville family when he left unexpectedly and without notifying anyone in the early hours of January 18.

She said she was now starting to think his final moments may have been as a result of a car crash or something similar.

“He wasn’t suicidal, we’ve had to consider that option but we really think no, it would be misadventure,” Ms Harpur said.

“We’re just preparing ourselves as well.”

He was driving a grey Ford Territory with New South Wales registration.

As she grapples with thoughts of her son’s disappearance, the mum-of-two is also grieving her 88-year-old dad who died on February 22.

Ms Harpur, 52, said Mr Huntington’s 24-year-old sister lived overseas and was waiting anxiously for news before she booked flights home.

Following Mr Huntington’s disappearance, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast police launched a joint investigation.

The Lismore mum had also started a GoFundMe to raise money to search for her son, alongside police efforts.

A fresh appeal for information was then shared on February 15.

Ms Harpur said the police response had been fantastic.

“I appreciate what the police have done,” she said.

Police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information they may have about the man’s disappearance.

Anyone who has seen Mr Huntington or his vehicle, a grey Ford Territory with the NSW registration CQG59F, or who could have any information which could help police is urged to contact www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting or call 131 444.
