Sunshine Coast residents are at their wits’ end over teens allegedly throwing bottles, damaging street signs, terrorising people and drunkenly fighting at weekend beach parties, likening the chaos to scenes out of the Project X movie.

About 100 youths converged at Beach Access Point 154 at Alexandra Headland on Friday, February 23.

Onlookers allege attendees at the gathering of throwing and smashing bottles, littering, riding on bikes around cars along Alexandra Pde, intimidating people walking by as well as fighting each other on buses and at bus stops.

The gathering was promoted on Instagram page ‘sunco.parties,’ attracting attendees from Nambour, Caloundra, Sippy Downs and as far away as Brisbane.

A link on the Instagram page navigates to a GoFundMe page set up to acquire party equipment for the street parties.

Alexandra Headland resident Elizabeth Hogg described the scene on Friday night as absolute chaos.

“It was horrible, it was absolutely horrendous,” Ms Hogg said.

“You had kids throwing bottles at cars, drinking alcohol, fighting each other, pulling wheelies on electric push bikes in between cars in traffic, circling around buses as they were travelling along, people running out in between traffic, they had pulled street signs out of the ground and thrown them onto the beach.

“They were intimidating people walking from the surf club, locals have said they have been approached by people asking them to buy alcohol, it was bad.”

While the unruly parties have been a regular occurrence for the past six months, Ms Hogg said she had never seen it as bad as it was on Friday night.

“Last weekend was the worst I’ve ever seen, it was apocalyptic,” Ms Hogg said.

“It was like something out of a US movie, where you’ve got people fighting in the streets, people running between cars and throwing bottles at cars.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, it was like living in Woodridge.”

Ms Hogg was referring to the movie Project X, which depicts teens at an out-of-control party.

Fellow Alexandra Headland local Mick Edwards said it was the worst gathering he had witnessed in recent months.

“Over the past few months they have been annoying, but this was just disgraceful,” he said.

“This was a much larger gathering, it was a lot more chaotic, it’s ruining our piece of paradise.”

Mr Edwards added that the kids in attendance showed total disregard for the police.

“The kids were taunting the cops, I think they saw it as part of their game, there was no fear,” he said.

“They were laughing at them, yelling abuse at them, they’re doing monos in front of the cops with no helmets, no lights, just giving them the finger.

“I feel sorry for the police, there is not much they can do, the kids just don’t care.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said multiple police crews were called to the “disturbance” at Alexandra Headland on Friday.

“Police responded to multiple reports of a disturbance on Alexandra Parade around 7.45pm on Friday, February 23, where a street party was being held,” the spokeswoman said.

“It’s understood up to 100 people were in attendance and causing a disruption.

“Multiple crews attended and moved the group on, patrols of the area continued throughout the night.”

The spokeswoman added that officers were investigating reports of an assault that allegedly happened on Alexandra Parade about 8pm.

“Initial information indicates a 17-year-old female was assaulted following the party,” the spokeswoman said.

“She attended hospital for treatment for minor injuries.”

Police investigation into the gathering continue.
