Sunshine Coast CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said two Ipswich boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested and charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle after a white 1500 2019 Dodge RAM was found at Coochin Creek on Thursday morning.

The RAM, which was stolen from a Pelican Waters home along with a Mazda 3, was one of eight vehicles reported stolen within three hours.

It is not suggested the two boys were involved in the other thefts.

A red Mercedes SUV and a Mercedes Coupe were also stolen from a Kumbada Court home in Minyama.

A green Subaru Impreza was stolen from outside the Alexandra Headland Surf Club, as well as a BMW from Memorial Drive in Eumundi and a Mitsubishi Triton from Picnic Point Esplanade in Maroochydore.

A Mazda CX-30 was taken from Sternlight Street in Noosaville.

All vehicles were stolen between midnight and 3am, Sergeant Mansfield said.

As of Thursday afternoon the only cars to be recovered were the RAM and BMW, with the latter found burnt out.

Police believe there are more offenders at large, Sergeant Mansfield said.

Sergeant Mansfield said car thefts on the Sunshine Coast were on the rise, and investigations showed thieves were targeting higher end vehicles.

“We do know in the last three months … we’ve had a 111 per cent increase in stolen vehicles detected on the Sunshine Coast. The vast majority of those vehicles were stolen from wealthy areas,” he said.

“They want the Audis and they want the Mercedes and they want the Range Rovers, they want top vehicles.”

Sergeant Mansfield said it was important for the public to remember to secure their vehicles and property property to minimise the risk of being broken into.

Investigations are ongoing.

The latest incidents comes as exclusive Noosa suburbs were targeted in a spate of break-ins and car thefts that led to the arrest of four people, including two teens, last month.

In April, Sunshine Coast nightclub owner John Calcino who had two cars stolen from his home in a six-month period had offered a reward for information regarding the latest incident.
