The case against a Buderim man who allegedly had child abuse material transmitted from his phone has been delayed after his lawyers asked for more time to finalise their case.

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions presented a nine count indictment before Maroochydore District Court on October 5, 2022, against Paul Bingham.

The 35-year-old is facing three counts of using a carriage service to cause child abuse material to be transmitted to himself, three counts of using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material, and three counts of using or attempting to use a carriage service to access or transmit child abuse material.

Mr Bingham, who remains on bail, did not appear before court.

It’s alleged police executed a search warrant at Mr Bingham’s home in November 2021 where officers allegedly uncovered the material on two mobile phones.

The search was the result of an investigation which began after the Australian Federal Police-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation received a missing children’s report regarding material being transmitted from a Kik social media account.

Investigators from the Australian Federal Police’s Brisbane Child Protection Operations team identified the man as the alleged user of the account.

Mr Bingham’s solicitor, Teyana Bielby, said she was seeking more time to “finalise instructions” from her client and asked for an adjournment.

Judge Glen Cash adjourned the matter to December 7, 2022.

“I’d expect that when it’s reviewed again on December 7 that we know what’s going on by then in a couple months time,” Judge Cash said.
