A Maroochydore man who killed a Brisbane dad in a 2013 crash has been caught driving unlicensed six times since his release from jail two years ago.
Cory John Lydiard, now 28, was 19 when he dangerously drove in Beenleigh on May 17, 2013, and killed Regents Park father-of-two Mal Osborne.
Lydiard was given six years and six months prison and was released in late 2020.
Since then, he had driven six times while disqualified and also dangerously operated a vehicle again, Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told.
The three recent disqualified drives were between March 18 and July 8, 2022.
Prosecutor James Allen said Lydiard also smashed the rear window of a car to gain entry and made direct physical threats of harm to his housemate via mobile phone messages.
Specifically, Lydiard said he was going to “f--king bash his housemate and cut his face”.
“It couldn’t be clearer that this defendant shouldn’t be driving while disqualified,” Mr Allen said.
Defence solicitor Patrick Meehan said his client had an unfortunate childhood and it was reflected in his criminal history.
“(Lydiard’s) criminal history is terrible … he found it difficult settling in to the community upon his release,” Mr Meehan said.
Mr Meehan said he had spoken to Lydiard about how he would continue to be imprisoned if he continued to drive disqualified.
Magistrate Chris Callaghan ordered the 23-year-old be imprisoned for 12 months to be released on parole after serving four months.
“You’ve got a shocking criminal history for someone as young as you,” Magistrate Callaghan said.
Lydiard was also disqualified from driving for two years.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of driving disqualified, using a carriage service to menace or harass and entering premises.
