A motorbike rider is dead following a horror crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Paramedics rushed to the crash about 9am on April 20 on Mapleton Rd in Kureelpa and tried to revive the motorbike rider, a 70-year-old Sunshine Coast man, but he sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

Police have begun an investigation following the crash and preliminary information indicates that a black BMW K1300 motorbike was travelling east along the road, below the Dulong lookout, when a collision occurred with a white 2016 Ford Ranger ute travelling west.

Police stated the rider “was immediately assisted by the driver” following the crash.

Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

Anyone with information about the crash, or who have CCTV or dashcam footage should come forward via Policelink or Crime Stoppers.

Earlier, a Queensland Police spokeswoman said emergency services were also called to another crash in Maroondan, in the Bundaberg region, in which another motorbike rider is feared dead.

That crash occurred about 11am on April 20.

This latest incident on the Sunshine Coast is the second fatal motorbike crash in a month and follows the tragic collision that claimed the life of a teenager on March 21.

Hayden Webb, 19, died in a crash between his motorbike and a car at the intersection of Diddillibah and Nambour Connection roads.

The Sunshine Coast community rallied behind the Webb family following the tragic incident and raised money for the teenager’s funeral.

Sunshine Coast District Superintendent Craig Hawkins said motorbike riders were the highest risk road users when it came to road deaths.

“We continue to implore motorbike riders particularly to ride within their capabilities and the conditions of the road and be extremely watchful of other road users,” he said.
