Nikita Lee Ann Ward paid her landlord in meth in Tewantin

A 35-year-old mother caught up in a Tewantin drug raid confessed to police she had paid part of her rent in meth while she was in a financial bind.

A 35-year-old Tewantin aged care worker has confessed to police she dealt meth to her landlord in lieu of rent before her house was raided by police.

Nikita Lee Ann Ward had been at her Tewantin home on June 2, 2021 when police came knocking at her door searching for drugs.

Maroochydore District Court heard a large bowl of marijuana, a bong, a scoop and a crack pipe were found in her possession.

Crown prosecutor Sanaz Masoumi said two bags containing 6.5g of meth were also found during the search along with five clip seal bags containing 3g of marijuana.

Ms Masoumi told the court Ward had planned to sell each bag for $50 but hadn’t had the chance and up to 18g of marijuana had been found on the property.

After being given her cautions by police Ward said she had paid her landlord in meth as part-payment for rent between May 27 and June 3, the court heard.

Defence barrister David Crews said Ward had been recovering financially after her ex-partner allegedly spent their rent money on drugs.

The court heard after their break up the ex-partner allegedly stole her identity and credit cards which led her to becoming homeless.

Ward pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing drugs, one of supplying drugs and one of possessing utensils and was sentenced to 12 months’ probation.

No convictions were recorded.
