Sunshine Coast detectives are using everything at their disposal to locate missing Nambour man Nate Preston who they believe may have ventured into the Mooloolaba canals before he vanished.

Since Mr Preston’s disappearance from Mooloolaba around midnight on May 22, 2022 only his phone and bag have been found by police on May 27.

Friends and family have been desperately searching for answers and have called on their “soldier” to come home.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said police have enlisted the help of hydro technology to identify flows in the tide in the Mooloolaba canals.

Sergeant Mansfield said their investigations suggest Mr Preston may have entered the water at some point after he left an apartment on Mooloolaba that night.

Police divers from Brisbane have since made trips to the canals and scoured the sea floor looking for the missing 20-year-old.

“Once we do those tests it will indicate if he was in the water and we will then know where to search,” Sergeant Mansfield said.

“We’re also collecting more CCTV to confirm this as well.”

Sergeant Mansfield said they had security footage that took Mr Preston to the water’s edge but they were still investigating other CCTV to see if the Nambour man left the water.

“Both items we found were underwater at some point with them being exposed to us after a change in tide,” he said.

Those close to the missing Nambour man have since created a Facebook page in the hunt for him called Help find Nate Preston.

Anyone with information regarding the 20-year-old’s whereabouts is urged to come forward or call Policelink on 131 444.
