A Sunshine Coast businessman says thousands of dollars were snatched from him after two “scared” robbers allegedly raided his convenience store, with one grabbing an employee while wielding a hammer.
Lucky Seven Picnic Point owner Bill Huang, 36, said the alleged armed robbery of his Duporth Ave, Maroochydore store happened about 8.20pm Thursday.
Mr Huang said he and a young employee, 16, were behind the counter preparing to close when two people wearing hoodies and masks stormed in.
Security camera footage of the 25-second incident showed a person wearing a black hoodie rushed behind the counter, grabbed a young employee by his collar while waving a hammer in his face.
Mr Huang, who remained unnoticed by the masked duo, said they demanded cigarettes and cash.
He said his young employee was “very brave” while the robbers stole between $1000 to $2000 in cash and $300 to $400 worth of cigarettes.
Mr Huang said the pair appeared scared and flustered, adding they were “arguing with each other”.
He said they complied with the alleged robbery, adding he didn’t want to provoke the pair or risk his and his employees’ safety.
“I thought, ‘I don’t need to do something’,” he said.
Queensland Police said two people fled on foot before police found a 23-year-old Maroochydore man with cash and packets of cigarettes near Anzac Ave.
