A man and a woman suspected of being involved in a “violent” armed robbery at a Gold Coast tavern have faced court after they were arrested at a Sunshine Coast shopping centre.

Jessica Leigh Hope, 21, and Liam Jamieson Hoynes, 28, from Inverell, have been charged with possessing tainted property, receiving tainted property, dealing with identification information and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The pair were located inside the Sunshine Plaza on November 2 where they were arrested and taken to the watch house.

Court documents stated Mr Hoynes was carrying a navy blue dry bag that he stated contained approximately $66,000 Australian currency.

The cash was found bundled together with rubber bands some of which was wrapped in cling wrap, the documents state.

Police will allege the cash was stolen from a “violent” armed robbery at the Ashmore Tavern around 3.40pm on November 2.

“During the commission of this offence which is still under investigation by Gold Coast CIB a number of employees of the tavern were zip tied at gunpoint by two offenders and $107,000 cash stolen,” court documents stated.

“It is highly probable further charges will be preferred against Mr Hoynes and Ms Hope.”

Ms Hope appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court via video link from the watch house on November 3 and applied for bail.

She was granted bail on the conditions that she must reside at her New South Wales address and have no contact with Mr Hoynes.

Police also allege the pair were responsible for stealing a white Toyota Hilux ute from a business on Duke St, Gympie between October 21 and 22.

The informant told police the business premises had previously been the subject of a break and enter whereby a box of keys to numerous work vehicles was stolen.

Police received a triple-0 call in relation to a single vehicle crash on Old Bruce Hwy at Federal at 6.43pm on October 31, 2022.

Court documents state a witness believed the vehicle had failed to navigate a bend in the roadway and saw two people leave the scene.

Latent fingerprints were collected from the stolen vehicle that have been identified as belonging to Mr Hoynes.

“A search of the vehicle located a large quantity of drivers licenses, bank cards and other personal documentation consistent with identity theft,” court documents stated.

“Police will submit the level of sophistication with regards to the identity theft is high based on the quantity of personal information collected by Mr Hoynes and Ms Hope.”

Mr Hoynes did not apply for bail in court.

They are due to appear again on November 24.
