A Sunshine Coast courier business owner’s sickening sex crimes against a young girl, which included a disturbing blindfold food game, have been exposed in court.

Michael John Williams indecently dealt with the girl on two occasions when she was aged between nine and 11 and he was aged 32 to 33.

Judge Amanda McDonnell said the girl asked Williams to play a food game, and he blindfolded the child with her hands tied up and first put a sausage in her mouth.

The 40-year-old then put his genitals against her mouth.

Judge McDonnell said on another occasion he touched her body and her genitals under her clothing.

The matter was first reported in 2016 but the court was told no formal complaint was made.

In 2021, the father of the victim’s friend read a diary entry about the disturbing offending and reported it to police, with the victim this time providing a statement.

Williams initially said he couldn’t recall the offending, before later pleading guilty in Maroochydore District Court to two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12.

The victim impact statement was read in court and detailed the ongoing trauma the crimes have caused the now young woman.

“Out of everything I should’ve felt, I felt guilty. I would tell myself over and over that it didn’t happen,” it read.

“I felt so used, dirty, lonely and numb. I hated the world for a very long time.”

The victim’s mother read her own impact statement to the court, saying how she couldn’t believe what had happened to her daughter.

“The shock lasted for a long time and I was broken,” she said.

“I’m living a mother’s worst nightmare right now.”

Defence barrister Nathan Turner said his client had a “terribly traumatic childhood” where he was put into foster care at a young age.

“He suffered significant neglect from his own parents, including physical and emotional abuse,” Mr Turner said.

Mr Turner said Williams was also abused during his time at BoysTown, and started using drugs and living on the streets during his early teenage years.

“He no longer consumes alcohol to excess or any drugs, on my instructions,” he said.

“As a consequence of his PTSD, he has great difficulty in accepting that he was capable of sexually abusing (the victim).”

Williams became a cabinet-maker before buying a courier business that he had been involved in for 14 years, the court heard.

He was sentenced to two years’ jail, which is to be suspended after he serves six months.

He will also be placed on probation for two years upon his release from custody.
