A Glass House Mountains teen caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to a cop car in Springwood because she thought the arresting officers were laughing at her.

Layla Maunder, 19, will pay no compensation after she caused a public nuisance and damaged a police vehicle at the Brisbane Bears-Fitzroy Football Club in Springwood on August 13, 2021.

Caloundra Magistrates Court was told the 19-year-old woman formerly from Cornubia had been drinking and arguing with friends throughout the evening until she was asked to leave about 9.25pm.

Police prosecutor Amanda Brewer said the teenager had refused to leave the club before she was physically removed by security.

Sergeant Brewer said Maunder tried to push her way back inside after leaving and had to be restrained due to her violent behaviour until police arrived.

During her interactions with police she abused them until she was arrested.

The court heard Maunder then kicked one of the police car’s windows and caused the door window frame to bend.

Two months later on October 1, 2021 she failed to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

Defence lawyer Neesha Maidwell said Maunder, who was now expecting a child, had been arguing with her ex-partner during the night.

Ms Maidwell said Maunder had thought the arresting officers were “laughing at her” when she was in the police car and “lost it”, leading to $1427 in damages.

The court was told by Ms Maildwell that Maunder had moved from Brisbane and would be living in the Glass House Mountains region.

Maunder pleaded guilty to public nuisance, failing to leave a licenced premises, failing to appear in court and wilful damage and was sentenced to 60 hours’ community service.

Magistrate Catherine Benson ordered no compensation with no convictions recorded.
