Jessie Jordan Dale sentenced after Coolum police chase

A Sunshine Coast court has heard tragic details of how a Nambour pool maker’s childhood and teenage years lead to a spate of criminal activity. Here is what happened.

Australia's growing drug crisis

A Sunshine Coast court has heard tragic details behind a 25-year-old pool maker’s spate of offences, including a short, high-speed police chase through Coolum.

Jessie Jordan Dale appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on videolink on Tuesday, September 6, where he pleaded guilty to 32 charges.

The most serious charge related to when Dale led police on a short, high-speed chase through Coolum on January 16, 2022.

Police prosecutor James Allen said police tried to pull Dale over after he was spotted speeding, but he instead sped off at more than 110km/h and led police on a chase.

“(He drove) on the wrong side of the road, on blind corners and poorly lit areas (and) hit speeds of over 50km/h over the speed limit,” he said.

Police then gave up their pursuit.

Dale did not have a licence at the time, the court heard.

But defence lawyer Neesha Maidwell said Dale’s offending was rooted in a turbulent meth addiction, which he had battled since he was 17.

She said he was exposed to drug use from a young age, after watching his mother use intravenous drugs.

However Dale’s addiction spiralled in 2020 after his partner gave birth to a stillborn child and he fell into a depression.

He was using a “particularly significant amount” of meth when he was arrested, Ms Maidwell said, but his time in custody had served as a detox.

He enrolled in drug prevention courses while in custody, the court heard.

Dale was sentenced to seven months behind bars and was disqualified from driving for two years.

He will be eligible for parole on March 21, 2023.

All property seized was forfeited to be destroyed.

Dale’s list of charges included:

-seven breaches of bail

-dangerous driving

-driving without a licence three times
