Jessica O’Connor was injured in a car crash at Palmview in January 2018

A man admitted he was responsible for a car crash which left a teenager with back and neck problems.

A woman who was seriously injured in a crash on the Bruce Highway in 2018 has received a payout from the man driving the car that hit her.

Court documents reveal Jessica O’Connor, now 19, was awarded $30,880 in damages after she was involved in a crash near Aussie World on the Bruce Highway at Palmview on January 5, 2018.

The trial was heard before Judge Tony Moynihan in Brisbane District Court on August 12.

Ms O’Connor had been driving northbound when she slowed her car almost to a stop before another car driven by Lawrence Wright collided with the rear of her car as he tried to change lanes at a speed of about 70km/h.

Ms O’Connor’s car was extensively damaged in the collision after it had been pushed into another vehicle in due to the impact.

She also sustained a soft tissue injury to her cervical spine and to her thoracolumbar spine which aggravated a pre-existing thoracolumbar scoliosis, court documents stated.

Mr Wright and his insurer admitted liability.

Court documents revealed Ms O’Connor experienced pain in the right side of her neck, right shoulder blade, right lower back and in the middle of her back as a result of the crash.

She continues to suffer from some pain but has almost fully recovered from her injuries.

Ms O’Connor had originally sought to claim $99,650 in damages.

Judge Tony Moynihan awarded the final payment of $30,880 to cover general damages, past special damages, future expenses and future economic loss.

A final judgment and discussion of costs is yet to be heard by Judge Moynihan.
