A construction worker has lashed out at four security guards after he was evicted from a popular Sunshine Coast concert venue.
Four security personnel at The Station in Birtinya came under attack at the hands of Brandon Jae Walsh in what was described as a protracted and violent incident in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Magistrate Anna Smith said Walsh drew attention from venue staff about 8.20pm April 20 after they received complaints about him pushing other punters in the crowd.
Ms Smith said the 32-year-old was escorted from the establishment while in an arm lock until he reached the front door.
The staff, who figured he calmed down, let him go. Walsh then kicked one of the security guards in the torso.
Security guards continued to escort him to the car park where they remained to monitor the situation.
The construction worker approached security a number of times until he threw sunglasses towards one of the guards who happened to duck.
When the guard went to pick the sunglasses up, the 32-year-old punched the guard twice in the head.
Other staff restrained him and tried to talk to Walsh to calm him down.
He was released again however the 32-year-old kicked a second guard in the back of the leg, which led to a scuffle.
During this altercation, Walsh punched the second guard twice in the forehead.
Ms Smith said Walsh walked towards the car park and took up a fighting stance with a third staff member and punched him in the chest, which knocked him to the ground
A wrestle ensued between Walsh and a fourth security guard. During the wild melee he punched this man twice in the mouth, which caused a cut to the inside to his lip.
The court was told the other three guards did not receive injuries.
Walsh was charged with three counts of common assault and one of assault. He pleaded guilty to all offences in court on Wednesday.
Police prosecutor Mark Burrell said Walsh’s unrelenting attacks warranted actual time in jail, and cited a previous entry of violence on his criminal record.
This was a common assault and public nuisance in Ocean St at Maroochydore in 2021, with Acting Sergeant Burrell believing alcohol was a continuing problem for the 32-year-old.
Defence solicitor Rose Killip said it was accepted alcohol was the issue but claimed Walsh “showed dedication” to addressing this along with other underlying concerns.
Ms Killip said the 32-year-old made substantial changes in his life which included relocating from Western Australia to Queensland for a fresh start partnered with extensive counselling.
She said he showed contrition and had a genuine commitment to change.
Magistrate Anna Smith accepted his commitment to rehabilitation and opted to grant him immediate parole release on a 12-month jail sentence.
Walsh must also pay $1000 in compensation to one of the victims.
